Dream Shed is a creative, hands-on family workshop delivered by Deaf Architecture Front at the Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA), in collaboration with the RIBA Learning Team, led by Elizabeth Adams. The project is designed specifically for Deaf children and families, supporting inclusive access to architectural education through playful, collaborative making and storytelling.
We asked participants to design and build their own ‘dream shed’ — for a garden, future home or local park. During the two-hour session, siblings and parents worked both independently and together to create unique and imaginative structures. Each participant built their model on an A4 baseboard to take home, encouraging families to continue developing their ideas beyond the workshop.

All materials used in the workshop were recycled, reinforcing sustainable design principles and demonstrating how creativity and environmental responsibility can work together. The project aimed to inspire confidence, curiosity and shared learning in Deaf families while introducing core architectural concepts in an accessible and engaging way.
The workshop was co-led by Deaf Architecture Front founder Chris Laing, alongside Martin Glover, a Deaf architect and experienced art facilitator.
